Secret Symphony, the brand new album by Katie Melua,
will be released on February 6th, 2012
Katie Melua takes the stage in front of the Secret Symphony
Orchestra, on this, her fifth album. Always happy to
step away from people's expectations, Katie delivers
a superbly crafted set of tracks interpreting songs
drawn from a wide spectrum of songwriters including
herself and Mike Batt.
"This album was going to be my 'singer's album' says
Katie. I had always wanted to do this one day; singing
other people's songs brings something out of you and
your voice that isn't perhaps where you would have gone
vocally with your own material. It stretches you. As
it happened Mike and I did write a couple of new ones,
but the general idea was to find songs by great writers
such as Ron Sexsmith ('Gold In Them Hills') and a favourite
song of mine, originally recorded by Bonnie Raitt ('Too
Long At The Fair) plus some more well known ones like
'Keeping The Dream Alive'."
The result is a collaboration with orchestrator and
conductor Batt that imbues the songs with a distinct
personality that could only be the work of this creative
team. The gorgeous 'Secret Symphony' album was recorded
at Air Studios in London and represents a blend of musicianship
and dedication that will delight existing Katie Melua
fans and win her many new ones.

second album from Gurrumul Yunupingu, out on
September 5th 2011.
Recorded
at the old Power Station in New York, now AVATAR,
and 301 in Byron Bay by ARIA Award nominee producer
Michael Hohnen and engineer Anthony Ruotolo
[John Mayer, Anthrax, Meatloaf, Mary J. Blige
and Ron Carter], this second solo album retains
the quality, purity and sound of his first,
but has this elusive artist delving into other
genres and instruments within his own cultural
context.
It follows in the footsteps of this multi ARIA
award winning double platinum debut released
in Europe in 2009, and inexplicably connects
with the emotional psyche, this time even more
deeply. Rrakala taps into old songs from Gurrumul’s
band, his family's songwriting, his new material
and presents a choice of songs that reflect
deeper into his Aboriginal identity. Showcased
for the first time are his exceptional skills
on piano, drums, nylon string acoustic guitar,
electric and acoustic guitars. By opening up
further, this album reveals more of his rich
vocal harmonies which creates a deeper, more
